The issue has been investigated by the government, petitioned by safety groups, and has resulted in at least one technical service bulletin (TSB).
Despite all of that, the lead plaintiff says Nissan continues to ignore complaints about AEB malfunctions.
]]>The Center for Auto Safety says Nissan needs to skip the service bulletins and issue a proper recall.
]]>The automaker learned that retainer clips meant to hold the low-pressure fuel lines onto the high-pressure fuel pumps weren’t locked into position during manufacturing. That’ll likely cause fuel to leak out and error code P0087 to trigger the check engine light. Of course, you might not notice the light since you’re too distracted by the wall of flames where your car once sat.
]]>Nissan’s new plan involves a different route for the cable and harness clips to keep everything in place. Whoever came up with the first plan should be shown the door.
]]>The judge says the allegations are plainly sufficient and will allow the case to move forward.
]]>As for the plaintiff paying $459 to fix a rusty floorboard, the work was performed seven years after the corrosion warranty expired, then Hays sold the Altima when it had about 103,000 on it.
Nissan says the plaintiff told the buyer of the Altima the car was in "good condition," but a year after selling the car she sued Nissan claiming the floorboard prematurely rusted through.
Nissan doesn’t deny the problem exists, and how could they? The evidence is overwhelming. But in this case they might have a point.
]]>This lawsuit covers any 2017-2019 model with AEB (automatic emergency braking) technology. It’s the second lawsuit for AEB problems this month.
]]>Altima drivers complain about losing the rear suspensions that affect rear wheel alignments on what Nissan calls the lower spring links, with three complaints saying the control arms broke while the vehicles were in use.
No control arms? No control. Sounds pretty serious to me.
All vehicles are susceptible to the hazards of road salt, especially in the salt belt states. Some vehicles just seem to handle it better. Apparently the 2013 Altima isn’t one of them.
]]>The owner's manuals for many of the vehicles admit the automatic emergency braking systems do "not function in all driving, traffic, weather and road conditions.” But the plaintiff says the manual leaves out the part about how the systems can cause vehicles to suddenly stop even when no objects are in the driving lane.
It’s scary to think that a safety system might actually create more crash scenarios than it prevents.
]]>]]>Nissan argued those claims didn't hold because the plaintiffs had not adequately pleaded any of its express or implied warranty claims. However, the judge ruled claims about express and implied warranties survive, which automatically means Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act claims survive.
[The plaintiff] says his Altima suffered from delayed acceleration, juddering and slow response times, then in December 2016 the car finally stalled. After being towed to a Nissan dealer, the plaintiff was told the transmission would need to be replaced.
Nissan extended the CVT warranty to 10 years / 120,000 miles for the 2007-2010 model years. They also offered reimbursement for previous repairs.
I'm guessing there are plenty of 2013-2014 owners who would be very happy with that same deal.
]]>The pumps were first recalled back in 2016. However the seals used to “fix” the leak have failed and now the pumps have been recalled again.
Nissan is even worried enough to ask owners of the 2015-2017 Murano, 2016-2017 Maxima, 2017-2018 Pathfinder and the 2017 Infiniti QX60 vehicles to park their cars outside and away from things you wouldn’t like to see turned to ash.
Maybe I should direct my choice words at Nissan instead.
]]>In August 2017, the ignition switch supplier (Alpha Technology Corp.) told Nissan a problem occurred during manufacturing of the ignition switch ball springs. New tests were created for the ignition switches and how they would function on rough roads during vibrations of the vehicles.
Tests concluded that those ball springs are giving out way too early. And without springs to support the weight of heavy key chains bouncing around on bumpy roads, the ignition is slipping itself from the “on” to “accessory” position.
To make sure drivers don’t suddenly find themselves cruising down the highway with their radios on and their engines off, Nissan is recalling over 150,000 vehicles.
If this all sounds familiar you might be thinking of Chevrolet’s long nightmare with faulty ignition switches. In fact, maybe now is a good time to mention the Chevrolet City Express has found its way into an otherwise all Nissan lineup of recalled vehicles. Seems like more than a coincidence.
The one key difference is that Nissan’s airbag systems have an electrical capacity reserve, which means they should still stay on even with the ignition in the “accessory” position. Chevy owners weren’t so lucky.
]]>Anyway, I guess these batch recalls are our new reality. Nissan announced they’re pulling back 53,000 Versa sedans and hatchbacks to replace the passenger-side airbag inflators.
Takata has been in the news a lot lately, and none of it has been good – more confirmed casualties and stop-driving orders have prompted questions from our much-maligned Senators. Ooo, I have a question – what the heck took them so long?
]]>Alternatively, those owners and lessees may receive a voucher to be used toward the purchase of a new Nissan vehicle ... Reimbursement percentages are based on the mileage of the vehicle at the time of repair, and a vehicle with more than 120,000 miles at the time of repair is not entitled to reimbursement.
The settlement covers owners of the following in California or Washington State (sorry Oregon):
Oh, and in case you’re wondering why the offer stops at 120,000 miles, court documents reveal that’s the full life expectancy of vehicles, according to Nissan.
Between that revelation, timing chain problems, and transmissions choking on coolant, any 2005-2007 Frontier, Pathfinder, or Xterra owner that makes it past 120,000 miles should probably go play the lottery.
]]>“Plaintiff Marie DeMaria filed the proposed class-action lawsuit that alleges rust and corrosion can cause the floorboards to rust so severely the occupants can see the road. Additionally, the holes are deceptively dangerous because the interior carpet can hide the rust and corrosion from Altima owners.”
The problem is often concealed by the interior carpet and isn’t noticed until it’s too late. The rust often gets so bad that these vehicles can no longer pass state inspections without expensive repairs.
]]>The lead plaintiff says a simple warning light quickly escalated into a fried, useless transmission.
“The overheated CVT will send the Sentra into fail-safe mode which takes down the engine RPM to try to protect components from further damage, but drivers can expect vibrations, shaking and shuddering and then dealing with transmission failure.”
The sudden fail-safe mode can leave drivers in a dangerous position and it’s something Nissan has known about for years.
The lawsuit covers all U.S. consumers who bought or leased a 2012-2017 Sentra with an Xtronic CVT.
]]>Nissan promises a brake pedal designed to gather dust. The brand’s new e-Pedal, found in the 2018 Leaf, allows — with the push of a button — the ability to speed up, slow down, and hold a stop via the pedal on the right.
The car will come to a complete stop when you lift your foot off the e-Pedal, which Nissan says will be a more "exciting and engaging way to drive." The only exciting about it will be watching traffic swerve around the Leaf driver who tried to coast but instead came to a screeching halt.
"Drivers can cover 90% of their driving needs with the e-Pedal, making the process of driving more exciting. In heavy traffic and during city commutes, drivers will greatly reduce the need to shift from one pedal to the other, making your drive simpler and more engaging."
I'd argue that one pedal isn't simpler. Hell, some people still can't tell the difference between the pedals we have now.
]]>So now Nissan has brought together their best engineers and a top-notch legal team to come up with their defense –– ok, our timing chains are noisy, but they're not a safety defect.
From CarComplaints.com:
"According to the automaker, there has never been anything defective about the timing chain systems and the most that owners can show is that the timing chains make noise, not that the systems are a safety risk. Nissan says the plaintiffs admit no crashes are attributed to the timing chains, even though the majority of the vehicles have been in service more than 10 years."
So the case will attempt to answer are Nissan's timing chains just loud and annoying? Or are they loud, annoying, and potentially dangerous?
The vehicles named in the suit all use the same uniform timing chain system: the 2004-2008 Maxima, 2004-2009 Quest, 2004-2006 Altima (VQ35 engine), 2005-2007 Pathfinder, 2004-2007 Xterra, and the 2005-2007 Frontier (VQ49 engine).
]]>"The plaintiff claims Nissan has concealed the defective transmissions while never ordering a recall, even after years of owner complaints. In addition, the automaker allegedly falsely advertised the transmissions as having fewer moving part to reduce friction and heat which makes the transmissions last longer."
The lawsuit mentions that Nissan issued a warranty extension campaign, but that only included the 2007-2010 Sentra, not the 2014.
]]>The campaign is only for the 2009-2010 Altima, Altima Coupe, Altima Hybrid, and Maxima cars. They all come equipped with ESCLs that lock the steering wheel when the cars are parked and turned off.
Nissan says a manufacturing issue caused the ESCL to malfunction after the car had been turned off. Up until now, the owner's only option was to replace the part which cost, on average, around $1000 with parts and labor.
Nissan will replace the ESCL with an electronic steering column box. If you've already paid for repairs, Nissan will reimburse you with the proper proof. Additional service campagin info is available on CarComplaints.com.
]]>"Plaintiff Janelle Horne says she was riding with her husband and four kids in a leased Infiniti QX80 when the sunroof exploded like a shotgun, causing Mr. Horne to pull off the highway and see shards of glass everywhere.
Yikes, that'll get your attention. Hopefully this lawsuit means Nissan will start paying attention too.
The lawsuit only includes residents of California at this time, but similar lawsuits may be filed nationwide based on its results.
]]>By now I'm guessing you've heard about the dangers of Takata airbags, but here's a quick recap:
Mazda has now recalled more than 1 million vehicles for this problem. Find out if yours is on the most recent list.
]]>"During the Altima [door] trim panel installation, a latch-lock cable inside the door was not routed correctly ... [and] the cable can interfere with the window regulator and will inadvertently unlatch the door when the window is opened."
Nissan will recall 341,000 model year 2015-2017 Altimas to fix the issue.
]]>Heuer says he asked Nissan to cover the cost of the replacement, but was told Nissan would not spend its money for the dashboard.
Beyond cosmetics, the lawsuit says the melting dashboard is a hazard because:
For now, the lawsuit is limited to Florida residents.
]]>Safety regulators specifically looked at the airbag inflators, electrical wiring harnesses, connectors and the systems behind how the airbags deploy.
Nissan responds it doesn't believe there is a problem, and investigations of the Rogue SUVs determined the airbags deploy as intended.
The investigation was opened in January 2015 after owners complained their airbags deployed late (or sometimes not at all). NHTSA says the complaints were "unusual," and will continue to monitor the situation. If you have one now is a great time to share your concern.
]]>"According to the plaintiff, Nissan has known about the 370Z clutch problems since 2008 because of customer complaints, but the automaker concealed the alleged defect from consumers. The lawsuit also alleges the automaker has refused to reimburse owners for repairs to the transmission and failed to order a recall to fix the cars."
The lawsuit says continued clutch problems cause excessive wear and tear on the transmissions. Not to mention the headaches from all the other drivers honking at you.
]]>Unfortunately, the news gets worse. There were high hopes that the government would open an investigation that would lead to a recall, but we now know that ain't going to happen.
After being petitioned in 2012 by the North Carolina Consumers Council (NCCC), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation into the 2005-2010 Nissan Frontier, Pathfinder, and Xterra. It's taken four years, but NHTSA has a conclusion:
"[Out] of 2,505 complaints, 638 relate to stalling engines and vehicles that are unable to maintain speed, symptoms that could cause safety hazards. But according to NHTSA, the majority of complaints (1,867) aren't considered a risk to safety."
They did find four crashes related to the problem, but say the majority are "customer satisfaction issues." Yeah, you can say satisfaction is an issue.
"NHTSA says Nissan did issue a warranty extension in 2007 for the transmission oil cooler and radiator that provided owners with an 8-year/80,000 mile warranty. Then due to a class-action lawsuit in 2010, Nissan Frontier, Pathfinder and Xterra owners received extended warranty coverage for certain repairs for 10 years or 100,000 miles."
That's all fine and good, but let's take a look at some of the average mileages when this problem gets reported:
And so on. Isn't it convenient how the extended warranty expires just barely before the problem happens?
]]>A few lawsuits have been filed by owners with similar themes.
Now Nissan is looking to consolidate three separate class-actions into one settlement for 2013-2014 Pathfinder and Infiniti QX60 owners.
"If the settlement agreement is finalized by the court, affected Nissan and Infiniti owners and lessees will receive a transmission software update and a warranty extension by 24 months or 24,000 miles. However, the warranty coverage affects only certain aspects of the transmissions and not the transmission control units.
There are additional details on our website, including information for owners who may have understandably ditched their rides.
]]>Airbag supplier Autoliv was conducting routine testing in August when a side curtain airbag tore during deployment. After contacting Nissan about the malfunction, engineers determined the reinforcement stitching on the airbags may not properly secure two fabric sections of the curtain airbags.]]>
The improper stitching is enough to cause the airbag to tear at the sewn seam when the airbag deploys.
Nissan checked federal regulations to see if the problem was bad enough to order a recall, and although changes were made during assembly, the automaker said a recall was necessary. The recall affects any 2017 Nissan Versa built between 08/01/2016 and 08/16/2016.
Interestingly, the 2012 Versa is under investigation for side curtain airbags that deploy when it's not wanted. Apparently Nissan and Autoliv haven't heard of the Goldilocks Principle.
]]>"Safety regulators say early warning data submitted by Nissan shows the same airbag problems as Versa owners have complained about, so NHTSA needs to find out what is causing the faulty airbag deployments."
I wouldn't grab a cape just yet as it's likely an electrical issue. The investigation is ongoing.
]]>"Nissan is recalling more than 120,000 cars and SUVs to repair brake fluid leaks that may cause circuit boards to catch on fire. Worldwide, the automaker says about 134,000 are recalled, including almost 11,000 in Canada."
The recalled vehicles include:
Nissan says in April the automaker discovered a Sentra that wouldn't start during an inspection at the assembly plant. The automaker opened an investigation which showed a problem with a harness terminal pin.
The recalled Sentras were built between April 11, 2016 and April 26, 2016.
]]>"The engine room harness supplier, Yazaki, identified an oversized diameter continuity check pin had caused a permanent change of the shape of one of the harness terminal pins. The shape of the pin was too large to maintain a connection to the engine control unit, resulting in a poor connection."
The recalled Sentras were built between 4/11/2016 and 04/26/2016.
]]>See the full list of recalled vehicles.
Takata's metal inflators are at risk of exploding because they don't contain a drying agent called desiccate. Over time, the ammonium nitrate inside the inflator can become unstable when exposed to heat and humidity. If they do explode during an airbag deployment, metal shrapnel shoots throughout the cabin, injuring or killing the people inside.
Nissan, like other automakers, doesn't have enough replacement parts to fix their vehicles. This is the largest recall in US history with 70 million cars affected and parts are scarce.
Owners should get an initial recall notice in the mail, and then another when parts become available.
]]>The radiators in these vehicles --- as most of you know by now --- are ticking time-bombs. They leak coolant into the transmission, killing it.
Nissan has maintained a meh stance on this problem for years. Outside of a slight warranty boost that essentially benefited no-one, they've approached it with an annoying blend of nonchalance and smugness.
Meanwhile, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating the problem. But that's been going on for four years now. Does anyone at NHTSA know what Google is? Because it doesn't take much digging to find out just how widespread and awful this defect is.
If you've had a radiator leak, transmission failure, or are worried it will happen soon, you can help us keep the pressure on NHTSA and Nissan by adding your complaint to CarComplaints.com.
]]>So not only do you have to try and load the groceries while keeping your kid from running in the parking lot, but you might have to dodge falling doors while you're at it:
"The rear lift gate stay provides power assist to the rear lift gate and operates under high pressure gas. If the anti-corrosion coating is insufficient (there can be) a sudden release of pressure. The rear lift gate suddenly falling down can cause severe injuries to anyone near the gate."
This has happened in enough 2014-16 Rogue's to warrant a recall. The affected vehicles were built between July 31, 2013, and January 16, 2016.
]]>"Nissan says the occupant classification systems in the front passenger seats can turn off because the systems classify an adult as a child or classify a seat as empty even if an adult is in the seat."
That will disable the airbags for someone who really needs it.
"Nissan says in the case of a child classification, the system is designed to illuminate the airbag light indicating the airbag is turned off. However, if the initial classification is “empty seat,” the light will not illuminate and there is no indication that the airbag is suppressed."
Does any part of this thing work?
Nissan has been accused of covering up the OCS issue and issuing repairs that didn't work in a lawsuit.
]]>More than 1,550 Frontier V6 trucks have problems concerning the starter motor wire harness that could make contact with the heat shield. The contact can cause an electrical short in the area of the wire harness, possibly resulting in a fire.
The recall was expected to begin in April 2016.
]]>[Failure] occurs because of nickel plating material that can detach or flake from the fuel pump's inner or outer cover ... Nissan says there is a space between the impeller and the fuel pump cover, a vacant area that can hold detached plating particles and cause the impeller to stop rotating.
If this sounds familiar, Nissan issued a recall for the same exact thing last year. They just forgot one teeny, tiny detail --- to recall all the affected vehicles. Hopefully this expansion fixes that.
]]>The recall was ordered after Nissan launched a "service campaign" in October 2015 on 2013-2015 LEAF cars. The voluntary service campaign was issued in the U.S. and Canada after Nissan said the problem wasn't related to safety.
Say what you will about Nissan, but arguing that a brake defect isn't a safety defect takes a certain amount of gravitas.
The affected cars were built between 11/192012 and 07/31/2015.
]]>Nissan Frontier side airbag deployments have led to a proposed class-action lawsuit alleging the Frontier side airbags deploy for no reason. The lawsuit says the 2011-2012 Nissan Frontier trucks are dangerous because of the side airbags and Nissan refuses to fix the problems.
The lawsuit says that a randomly deployed airbag goes off, it poses a serious distraction to drivers. It then goes on to say the sun is hot, ice cream is delicious, and everything's better with bacon.
]]>The [2015 Rogue] transmissions could move out of the "Park" position by mistake. Parking the vehicle and walking away could cause the Rogue to roll away, especially if parked on an incline.
Normally you need to depress the brake pedal fully before you can shift the transmission into gear, but the Rogue has a faulty shift selector knob that is bypassing this important safety feature.
The affected Rogues are all from the 2015 model year and built between 02/10/15 and 05/13/15. The recall is expected to begin at the end of December and full details are available on our site.
]]>"Nissan blames the problem on a supply chain error that caused incorrect occupant classification control unit parts to be installed on vehicles that received the incorrect part after the March 2014 recall was completed. There are also vehicles that were not part of the March recall but received the wrong part from other repairs."
The latest round includes the 2013-2015 Altima, Pathfinder, the 2013-2014 Sentra, and Infiniti vehicles as well.
]]>The automaker is expanding the recall to include:
Don't be surprised if they expand it again. In the meantime, keep open flames away from your car and check out the full story for more details.
]]>The automaker claims the majority of rusted floorboard complaints started occurring 8 to 12 years after the cars were built.
It goes on:
Attorneys for Nissan claim all accusations of fraud are false because the plaintiffs can't show Nissan knew the floorboards would rust years after the cars rolled off the assembly lines.
Their motion to dismiss was eventually approved by the judge.
]]>The error can cause the airbag to deactivate and fail to deploy in a crash and the lawsuit alleges Nissan has known about the problem since at least 2012 due to complaints and warranty claims.
The first "limited" recall was in February 2013, but the fix was ineffective. A second, larger recall was announced in March 2014, but once again the lawsuit says the fix didn't do diddly.
The lawsuit, Matthew Senci v. Nissan North America, Inc., accuses the automaker of unfair and deceptive acts and seeks damages for the decreased value of the cars.
]]>Nissan said the problem was likely a bad seal inside the master cylinder and they changed the design in September 2013. Guess what happened when they did that? Yep, a sudden decrease in warranty claims.
Despite the evidence, NHTSA says it could only link three crashes to the pre-redesigned master cylinders and opted to close the investigation without requesting a recall.
]]>Plaintiff Marie DeMaria filed the proposed class-action lawsuit that alleges rust and corrosion can cause the floorboards to rust so severely the occupants can see the road. Additionally, the holes are deceptively dangerous because the interior carpet can hide the rust and corrosion from Altima owners.
The problem is often concealed by the interior carpet and isn’t noticed until it’s too late. The rust often gets so bad that these vehicles can no longer pass state inspections without expensive repairs.
]]>Nissan has gone against the wishes of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) by regionally limiting the expansion. Takata claims their inflators will only deteriorate in areas of high heat and humidity. But this is the same company that was fined $14,000 a day for not cooperating with an investigation and possibly destroying evidence, so take that for what it's worth (i.e. not much).
For now, the recall is limited to vehicles sold or registered in:
Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. Additional areas include American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, Saipan and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
There is no word on when the recall will begin, but owners should keep an eye out for an official notice in the mail. You can contact Nissan at 800-647-7261 with any questions.
]]>Five lead plaintiffs claim the Nissan vehicles have timing chain systems prone to early failure that can cause a huge expense for repairs. The plaintiffs claim failure of the timing chain can cause extensive damage to the car, including to the catalytic converter and destruction of the engine.
The class-action is currently only for current and former Nissan owners (and lessees) who live in New York, Florida, Maryland, and New Jersey. However, this could lay the groundwork for other states.
Loose and busted timing chains are a longtime nightmare for many 2004-2010 Nissan owners. When not properly tensioned, timing chains can cause everything from engine rattles, to misfiring, and eventually catastrophic engine failure.
The lawsuit alleges that Nissan has known about the issue since at least 2004 when they issued a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) to their dealerships. Additionally, the automaker is accused of ignoring the defect until the systems fall out of the warranty period.
The plaintiffs in Vincent Chiarelli, Philip Dragonetti, Michele Maszon, Todd Maszon and Chris Santimauro vs. Nissan North America Inc. and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. are represented by Kantrowitz, Goldhamer & Graifman, P.C.
]]>Makes you scared for what's coming in March 2016.
NHTSA says they've received 124 complaints about the occupant classification system (OCS) in "repaired" vehicles following the recalls. Failures of the OCS could allow the airbag to deploy when a child is in the front seat or not deploy when it's an adult. The vehicles being investigated include:
Right now the investigation is in the "recall query" stage. If anything comes of it, we'll let you know. In the meantime...

]]>Unfortunately for 2013 Nissan Rogue owners there are multiple reports of delayed airbag deployments. In some cases the airbags shoot out minutes after a crash. That has sparked a preliminary investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
So far all NHTSA is saying is the complaints are "unusual." I'm hoping they didn't spend too many of our tax dollars were spent reaching that conclusion. If NHTSA finds something substantial they'll likely upgrade the investigation to an engineering analysis or could recommend 195,000 2013 Nissan Rogues be recalled. If that happens, we'll let you know.
A late deployment isn't the only airbag related complaint about the 2013 Rogue. Multiple owners have noticed the passenger airbag turning off while an adult is in the seat. Have you noticed that too? At this point, it's too early to tell if the problems are related.
]]>In any event, the issue appears electrical in nature:
"Nissan says the gas gauge can give inaccurate levels because of problems with resistors in a circuit in the sender unit. The automaker found one of two resistors could open and cause false gas gauge readings when the tank goes below one quarter of a tank. Gas would be used out of the tank all while the gas gauge said a quarter of a tank was available."
To fix it, Nissan dealers will install an external amplifier box with jumper harnesses to bypass the resistor's electrical circuit.

We've all probably been guilty of taking our cars to the last drop of gas after the fuel warning light comes on, but in the Quest's case there is no such warning. One minute you're rocking out to Hootie and the Blowfish -- or, you know, whatever the kids listen to these days -- next minute you're stranded on the side of the road.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says they've received numerous complaints, all within the past 14 months. This is still just a preliminary investigation, but we will notify you if a defect is found.
]]>The OCS is supposed to turn on the airbag when there's an adult in the front passenger seat. but it's malfunctioning.
"Nissan says a combination of factors could cause the problem, such as high engine vibration at idle when the seat is initially empty and then becomes occupied. Even the posture of the passenger could cause the air bag to deactivate."
The recalled cars include the 2013-2014 Altima, LEAF, Pathfinder, Sentra, the 2013 NV200, plus additional Infiniti vehicles. It is expected to begin in April 2014.
]]>"Takata said the propellant wafers produced at a plant in Moses Lake, Washington, between April 13, 2000 and September 11, 2002, may have been produced with an inadequate compaction force. The propellant could deteriorate over time and cause too much combustion, which could cause the body of the inflator to rupture during air bag deployment."
When that inflator canister ruptures, metal shards can shoot out into the cabin. Most of the recalls are expected to begin in May, 2013.
]]>The affected vehicles include the 2013 Altima, LEAF, Pathfinder, and Sentra. It also includes the Infiniti JX35.
The recall is expected to begin in April, 2013.
]]>While the automaker has offered an extended warranty for the radiators, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and other safety organizations have received numerous complaints from owners alleging they have spent thousands of dollars for transmission repairs because the added radiator warranty coverage only applied to vehicles with fewer than 80,000 miles.
That “small percentage” appears to be on the rise, as this problem regularly tops the CarComplaints.com trending problems list.
Because it’s an extended warranty, and not a recall, Nissan isn’t obligated to tell owners about it. And, for those who know, it isn’t exactly clear if the radiator warranty extension covers damage done to the transmission by the leaking coolant.
