Nissan Faulty Ignition Recall

Nearly 2.1 million vehicles recalled worldwide

Faulty Ignition Leads to Engine Cutting Out While Running

October 28, 2010 — Nissan issued a recall for about 762,000 vehicles in the US and Canada, and more than 2 million globally, to fix a problem with the ignition relay that could cause engine stalling. In extreme cases, the engine will stall and won't be able to start again.

The recall also covers both Micra and Infiniti models that were built at Nissan's Sunderland factory between January 2004 and March 2006. In total, 762,000 of the vehicles are said to be in the US and Canada. This is the 4th largest recall in Nissan's history.

Thankfully, according to Nissan, no accidents or injuries have been reported resulting from the problem and they are being proactive by addressing the problem now.

“At Nissan, we're committed to the safety and satisfaction of our customers. We regret any inconveniences that our customers may experience as we address this issue”

Kevin Martin, a Nissan vice president.

Nissan will begin to ask affected owners to bring their vehicles in to dealers starting in December 2010. Once there, the dealers will have the electrical relay replaced. Owners with questions or concerns can call (800) 647-7261 for Nissan vehicles or (800) 662-6200 for Infiniti vehicles.
